“He sounds like a bureaucrat”: Variation of voice quality in stylistic performances

چکیده
Voice quality is a vital but understudied sociolinguistic feature in constructing style and personae. This study examines stylistic performances of character types Beijing Mandarin, to understand how voice varies comes conventionally associated with social meanings. Acoustic analysis recorded shows that dynamic variable should be examined from the lens different linguistic discursive levels. Combined meta-discursive analysis, findings show not only helps typify persona, also contributes forge relationships frames interactions.
